Ok. I waited for a translation before judging this but im sorry, its bullshit. I get that we are supposed to be upset, angry and sad in general that this happened to Historia, that’s the point. But, I’m angry for all the wrong reasons.

We have an entire arc in the story telling us why Historia would not do this through Rod Reiss who at this point would have had an equivalent impact on her life and it is straight up ignored so that Historia can do something convenient for the plot. We get nothing from Historia’s perspective so we don’t even have any justification as to why she threw the idea of living a life she’s proud of in the trash bin, WHEN WE HAD AN ENTIRE ARC DEDICATED TO TEACHING HER THIS IDEA. This is why Historia’s character regression is so awful.

Eren’s character regression on the other hand makes sense because we have those justifications through his newfound memories and knowledge of the world making him more depressed and unstable. We have reason as to why its believable that he would do the exact same thing Reiner did despite the fact that he is the person Eren hated most.

With Historia we have none of this, one panel she’s bright cheery and teasing Mikasa and then the next she resigns herself to her fate WITHOUT FIGHTING FOR IT. See, the all caps right there is my main issue. She puts up no resistance at all, Eren puts up more resistance on her behalf than she does for herself. She doesn’t even try to stall or find another way. She doesn’t fight for her life in any capacity. She just accepts being a birthing tool and inheriting the beast titan, when she basically rejected the exact same situation with Rod Reiss when she was in a emotionally vulnerable state of mind and lacked all sense of purpose. But now i’m apparently supposed to believe that a Historia that is relatively happy/content and secure with herself is going to put up infinitely less of a fight than depressed Historia with mental health issues including a martyr complex. Fuck off.

I keep seeing posts fly around saying “tragic things happen in this series get over it” or “you shouldn’t let ships be so important”. That’s not the fucking problem. I went through a page writing this without even mentioning Ymir’s name and she’s the primary reason Historia got the development I mentioned. The problem isn’t that Historia got busy with someone and that’s sad or w/e. The problem is that it not only undoes but also ignores all the development Historia got through interacting with and knowing Ymir. At this point, Ymir may as well of not even existed in terms of Historia’s character progression and development and THAT’s the problem.

And for the record, before someone goes out of their way to say “pfft ur just upset something sad happened get over it” I’d honestly of preferred if we got to this result by having Historia be broken down mentally or even just straight up forced to despite her best efforts because even though its way more tragic and disgusting at least it wouldn’t completely ignore the prior development she had that is screaming at the top of it’s lungs that she would resist this bullshit.

Sorry that I’m not sorry but ignoring prior character development so that a character can do something convenient for the plot isn’t good writing. Rant over.

  4. guylianferrero said: Otherwise it would just be ā€œthat Krista girl on the sideā€ rather than ā€œQueen Historia who we saw grow and thriveā€ (rhyme unintended). And don’t get me wrong, it’s less about the shock value of the pregnancy and more about the despair of going back to what everyone was fighting against in the first place- living like cattle in a cage. AND it’s the direct opposite of what Historia fought so hard for, which makes it even more tragic.
  5. guylianferrero said: I’m hesitant to say she didn’t fight against it or didn’t try to find another solution, because we haven’t seen the next chapter yet. Sure, maybe in 107 she accepted it right away but later she had doubts? I’ll wait till we see more of what happened during the time skip. Also, maybe Isayama built up her character and then defeated her on purpose? To make us feel more for her? If he hadn’t given her so much development the fans wouldn’t care as much, nor would it make us so sad
