I keep seeing a lot of hate floating around the fandom at the moment, and I’m not sure if its simply because I follow a lot of blogs like this, but it seems that a majority of the hate is being directed at the fandom meta writers this go around, but ALL of the salty anons I have seen on my dash directed at anyone are, to put it simply, fucking ridiculous.

Allow me to set some things straight for those of you who believe it is acceptable to shit talk in someone’s askbox while hiding behind anon.

YOU are responsible for the content you consume. If you don’t like someone’s content, or what they post, it is YOUR responsibility to remove that content from your dash by unfollowing or tag filtering. When you openly choose to not filter tags or to keep following someone despite knowing that what they post will upset you, you are making the conscious decision to keep consuming content you dislike, and guess what? THAT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. It’s not a meta writer’s responsibility, or anyone else’s for that matter, to censor themselves solely to YOUR liking and it sure as fuck isn’t their responsibility to cater to you.

If someone wants to be political on their own blog, guess what? THEY CAN.

If someone wants to word their responses/posts in a witty manner, guess what? THEY CAN.

If someone wants to share their opinions on something, even if it’s an unpopular opinion, guess what? THEY CAN.

I speak for all meta writers when I say that our opinions are our own. Period. You sending hate over them will not change that fact. We post our opinions because we want to, and hope that they may contribute some thoughts and depth to the series we all love. But, we do it mainly because people come to our askbox and, low and behold, ASK FOR OUR OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS ON THINGS. Holy shit, it’s mind-blowing, I know!

You are free to disagree with the opinions of others, and in some cases, discuss said opinions in a respectful manner depending on if the blog runner is open to that sort of thing. However, sending hate messages and just outright being a dick to the person who wrote their honest feelings in response to a question they were asked because YOU don’t like it or disagree is redundant and fucking childish.

Frankly, if you send anon hate to anyone for any reason, regardless of your age, you are a petulant child who isn’t mature enough to accept that the world, and fandom, does not revolve around you. Grow up and respect the fact that not everyone is here to hold your hand and bend their content to your will. People will have opinions you don’t agree with. People will say things about a character you don’t like. People will ship pairing that you dislike. Get over it and stop hiding behind anon just to sate your bitter pride. It’s not that serious, and being an asshole to someone over something you could have easily walked away from and removed from your dash entirely is just plain pathetic.

You pansy-ass, bitter salt mines are the reason a lot of fandoms end up as a raging dumpster fire. Your actions are unnecessary and only have a negative effective on the fandom as a whole. Stop trying to police the content of others by being a weak dick, and learn how to filter your experience on this site to be more positive. Take responsibility for the content YOU consume, and stop blaming others for your willing offense. It is not hard to walk away and NOT be an asshole ffs.
